If you’ve ever wanted to take on the challenge of completing a triathlon, now’s your chance.
The “Try This Tri”, which takes place in the morning on Monday, 17 June, is a family-friendly event, with courses and distances of varying lengths for different age groups, where even the adult course is a manageable “sprint” distance. Children of any age can participate, with those 4 and under competing for free in a dash across the soccer pitch.
All you need is a swimsuit, bike, running shoes – and a little determination. Sponsored by Solomon Harris, the triathlon takes place in and around Camana Bay. The course is designed so that kids ages 17 and under will race entirely on Camana Bay property, meaning that parents can complete the longer course without worrying about the youngsters’ safety.
The event starts with a swim. Unlike other triathlon events where one has to contend with waves, currents and salty water, the “Try This Tri” swim takes place in the Camana Bay pool, so it’s easier on those not keen on open water.
After pool laps, athletes jump on their bikes and pedal north, doing loops along the bypass and finish with a run through Camana Bay. Can’t do the whole thing alone? No problem – form a team and make someone else do the hard part.
Sign up online (www.caymanactive.com) before midnight on 15 June, or at Cafe del Sol, Camana Bay, on 15 June. Participation is free but adults are asked to become members of CITA in order to take part. Donations are always welcome and will go to the charities that Solomon Harris supports.
