The public bus depot in downtown George Town will be opened for fewer hours during the week, according to a government announcement published Thursday.
The buses, which run to all districts on Grand Cayman, will be accessible from the depot between 7am and 7pm, Monday through Friday. On Saturday, the depot will be open between 8.30am and 5pm.
The only exception is on the last Friday of each month, the depot will be open until 9pm for those wishing to attend ‘culture shock’ in George Town and using public transport.
No reason was given for the hours change, however, safety at the bus terminal has become a concern with the recent robbery of a driver in the car park there.
Earlier this month, police investigated the mid-week night-time robbery of a bus driver at the George Town depot by two passengers he had picked up at Coe Wood Beach in Bodden Town.
