The Deloitte Sharks had a rough start to their fall campaign.
Deloitte lost to the Burger King Gamebirds, 11-3, on Tuesday at Kings Sports Centre. The contest was part of opening night for the 2013 fall national inline hockey league.
The Sharks, Cayman’s two-time reigning champions, returned most of the veterans who contributed to past success such as Dan Etherington, Wayne Griffith and Joe Jewitt. However, Deloitte were missing captain and star scorer Rob Rintoul and suffered an off night from goalie Scott Hughes.
Burger King, meanwhile, had a stellar showing from goalie Randy Cannon, good defensive play from talents such as Brendon Malice and plenty of scoring from the likes of Eric Mildenberger.
Tuesday’s other match-up saw the Cayman Hot Sauce Flames crush the Mepco High Rollers, 12-5. Flames had more than seven of their goals scored by offseason acquisition and new Kings sports director Evan Ellbogen, while Jeremy Olynik was solid in net. The High Rollers looked rusty under captain Darryl Hather.
Matches continue until December on Tuesday nights at 8:30 and 9:30 p.m.
