It all starts and finishes Sunday at the Reef Resort and, with the Cayman Islands Marathon and triathlon only weeks away, a sizeable entry is expected.
Chadwick Webster won the 30km last year in 2 hours, 6 minutes and 58 seconds – a course record. Webster also ran the first leg for a team and finished an impressive 43 seconds ahead of his team, the Phoenix Athletic Club, that included Kevin Connolly and Leon Barracks.
In second place were teenagers Tahj Lewis (then 14), Dominic Dyer (13) and Jamie Montero (16) under the name MDR Boys A team.
The much improved Scott Ruby was second in the 30km last time in 2:22:48 and Jens Pankalla third in 2:30:37.
Event organizer Derek Larner said, “We are expecting all three to enter again but there are some potential challengers to the title.”
The quickest female was Helki Weber (2:32:14), second was Beth Florek (2:35:01) and third was Pam Abbott (2:38:53). With Florek and Abbott both pregnant, Weber is likely to retain her title, but she is recovering from injury, so there may be a new female champion. The best all-female team was the MDR Girls with KPMG the quickest corporate team.
The 5km was won by Pablo Brito (19:36) with Brandon Williams (22:37) second. The quickest female was Dierdre Billes (23:33) with Olivene Dyer second (28:31).
Larner said, “In 2012, we had 28 runners complete the 30km whilst 15 teams were in the road relay and more in the 5km fun run/walk. We have had a great response from all those who have run over the last two years and we’re hoping to increase the numbers again.”
To pre-register for the relay teams and 30km race, enter via www.CaymanActive.com, email [email protected], or attend the registration table at Camana Bay between 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 26.
