Solar Bears chill out Sharks

Adult hockey is in full swing at Kings Sports Center.

Round three of the adult Spring 2014 season takes place on Tuesday, Feb. 3. The Mepco High Rollers face the Deloitte Sharks at 8 p.m. before the ITS Solar Bears take on the Cayman Hot Sauce Flames at 9 p.m. ITS have been the frontrunners in the early going with two straight wins to start their campaign.

In their most recent victory last week – a 5-2 beating of the 1-1 Sharks – Brad De Schiffert and Eric Mildenberger provided most of the scoring. Rich Hastings, Jason Dimitri and Randy Cannon notched assists. The Bears may be new in name but have a wealth of veteran players such as Fareed Hosein, Rob Leadbetter and Pete Holowchuk, all of whom had shots on goal against Deloitte. For the Sharks, Dan Etherington had both goals, Paul Peene had both assists and unheralded players like Cody Bateman, Matt Lawson and Wes Tenneson had shots on goal.

Cayman Hot Sauce, the reigning champions, are 1-1 after rebounding from a 9-5 thumping by the Bears in the season opener. The Flames produced an 11-8 win over the Rollers last Tuesday. Evan Ellbogen, last season’s scoring champion, registered goals and assists in the contest along with Chris Anton. Additional goals came from Jason Windsor and Jagger Hope with Mike Bowden and Gordon Mattison making assists.

Jamie Nelson, Dan O’Flaherty, Ryan Pull and Scott Somerville scored for the Rollers. Pull and Nelson also had assists, along with Kevin Grzybouski and Patrick Agemian. With that result, the Rollers remain winless to start the season at 0-2.
