Defending cricket champions Greenies, with an emphatic victory over Prison, sent out a serious message to all challengers that they will not be easy to topple in 2014.
Batting first, Greenies scored 266 for 6, and Zachary McLaughlin scored the first century in Division 1 this year. McLaughlin 107 and Ryan Eisenhammer 53 were involved in a 154 runs partnership. Kervin Ebanks took 4 wickets for Prison.
In reply, Prison was limited to 88 runs with Ryan Bovell 3 wickets and Neil Coley 2 the main Greenies bowlers. Greenies won by 178 runs.
Islanders women’s team recorded their first success of this season defeating Greenies women by 5 wickets. There were outstanding performances from Paulette Pinnock and Natasha Roberts.
In Division 2, Sol Cubs, Schools and Aims Consultants recorded victories.
On Saturday Greenies Too plays Chillies at the Jimmy Powell Oval from noon in a Division 2 game. On Sunday, Police play By Rite at the Jimmy Powell Oval from 11 a.m. in Division 1. In the Women’s League, Strikers face Greenies at the Smith Road Oval from 2 p.m. Sunday.
