Burger Shack is one win away from a perfect season on the gridiron.
The burger lovers registered a 34-8 thumping of Andro Elevator in the Burger King Coed League, put on by the Cayman Islands Flag Football Association.
Burger Shack, 7-0, had quarterback Barrett Edri toss three touchdown passes, to receivers Will Peguero Jr., Perry Levy and Sophy Broad. Andro, now 6-1, saw Lisa Malice throw a TD pass to husband Brendon Malice last Friday.
Burger Shack’s final A division game is against Baron Solomon and 3-3 Pizza Hut on May 2.
Levy felt the contest didn’t live up to the hype, saying, “We executed, they didn’t. They turned the ball over, we didn’t.”
The Ed Bush field in West Bay did see plenty of tense games. WestStar upset Higgs and Johnson, 27-21. Kevin Morales led 4-2 WestStar with three TDs, with additional scores coming from Anton Brown, Timothy Coulson and Jessica Ebanks. With the loss, Higgs and Johnson fell to 5-1.
Burger King defeated Walkers, 25-24, in arguably the game of the night. Timothy Myles had two TDs and Nino Dilbert added a score for 1-1-5 Walkers. Burger King improved to 3-3.
Computers R Us improved to 6-1 to top the B ranks after a 42-14 thrashing of 1-5 Wakeboard Cayman. Dionne Whittaker notched an impressive six TD passes, half of which went to her son Jon Whittaker. David Hill had two TDs and Ernesto Ebanks had a score.
Wok-N-Roll improved to 5-2 in the A ranks after a 19-13 victory over 2-4 Cronies. Tito Solomon led the winners with three TD passes to David Taylor (two TDs) and Carrie Barnett-Carter. In other A division action, 1-6 Go Flag Yourself got its first win by beating 0-6 Los Terroristas, 13-6. Michael Carey and Scimone Campbell each had TD passes, while Jordan Stubblefield connected with Joseph Haylock for the lone Terroristas score.
The league is on a break for the Easter holidays, with games resuming on April 25. The playoffs start on May 9 featuring the top six teams in each group. Burger Shack, Andro and Wok-N-Roll lead the A ranks ahead of 4-2 Impressions Beauty Salon, Pizza Hut, 3-3 Duke’s, Cronies, 1-5 CrossFit 7Mile, Go Flag Yourself and Terroristas. Computers R Us and Higgs and Johnson lead the B division ahead of 5-1 Cayman Auto Diagnostic, WestStar, 3-3 Maples, 3-3 Burger King, 1-1-4 KPMG, Walkers, 1-5 Kirk Freeport and Wakeboard Cayman.
