A Cayman Islands magistrate issued a bench warrant Tuesday for a local drug suspect who was due to appear in court that morning, but failed to show up.
Magistrate Grace Donalds said the warrant for Alton Phillips’s arrest would be issued but held in abeyance until July 1, when he is expected back in court.
Phillips was charged with a number of crimes including, possession of ganja, possession with intent to supply, consumption of ganja, drunk driving and driving without being qualified.
Phillips’s attorney informed the court that he was overseas and due to return to Cayman shortly, but indicated that the crown prosecutor on the case “was not of the same mind.”
Magistrate Donalds said the arrest warrant would be stayed as long as Phillips showed up for court next Tuesday.
