Young man killed in West Bay

Another West Bay man was shot dead overnight in the second homicide to occur there this month.

According to the Royal Cayman Islands Police Service, the 20-year-old victim was found lying on the ground near a Birch Tree Hill Road home located across the street from Kelly’s Bar.

Emergency medical personnel and a doctor on scene attempted first aid, but the man was found to be unresponsive. The doctor pronounced him dead at the scene.

It’s believed the shooting occurred around 11:30 p.m. Friday.

There was no immediate word on whether the overnight shooting was connected to violence in the district earlier this month.

Victor Oliver Yates, 22, was shot dead outside the Super C Restaurant on Jan. 3.

In what was believed to be a retaliatory shooting, a 22-year-old West Bay man was shot at outside the Pop-A-Top liquor store two days later. He was struck in the wrist and survived
his injuries.

Arrests have been made in the Pop-A-Top shooting, but no one has been arrested in the Yates killing.

  1. How much courage does it really take to save a life ? The person who is brave enough to think of doing just that needs to say who they saw do the shooting. Is there any reward system for anyone who cares enough to help stop this awful cycle of youngsters being killed ? Is their child not worthy of their killer getting justice ? Speak up and clear your conscience all who know who these cowardly people are .
