Do ya feel lucky? The Cayman National Men’s Rugby 7s team will host its Casino Night fundraiser on March 24 upstairs at the George Town Yacht Club. The event starts at 7 p.m. and promises a great night of entertainment.

Tickets are $35 and include a welcome drink, food and some gaming chips to get you started.

Games tables include blackjack, poker, craps and roulette. Participants may buy additional chips during the event, and winnings can be used to bid on silent auction items throughout the evening.

Golf tournament

The team will also host the Golf Scramble fundraiser on April 28 at the North Sound Golf Club. Teams will arrive between noon and 1 p.m., with a start time of 1 p.m. Four-person team entry will be $700. This includes dinner after the round of golf.

There will be a raffle during dinner with numerous prizes up for grabs.

All proceeds from both fundraisers will help fund the Cayman 7s team for upcoming tournaments.

Cayman Rugby 7s

The Cayman 7s team recently returned from competing in the Borelli Walsh selects at the Las Vegas Invitational (described as the largest tournament of its kind in North America). The team made it through to the cup rounds and placed seventh overall in the elite division, facing opponents including Germany and Tigers Academy (USA Development 7s).

Many World Seven Series teams have their reserve players playing in these kinds of invitational tournaments, creating a great competition for the developing countries and existing top tier countries. The Cayman Rugby Football Union’s aim is to allow its players as much exposure as possible to high-quality sevens rugby.

Upcoming tournaments

The coming year will be a big one for the Cayman Rugby 7s, the team notes, and the union is doing its utmost to prepare the national 7s squad.

There are two tournaments for the developmental period before the annual domestic summer sevens series at South Sound rugby ground. The union will be scouting for talent during this series to find the best 12 players to represent Cayman at the Rugby Americas North (RAN) 7s championship in November/December. The RAN tournament will double as a qualification tournament for the following 2018 tournaments: Rugby Sevens World Cup in USA; Commonwealth Games in Australia; Central American Caribbean (CACSO) Games in Colombia; World Sevens Series core circuit qualification tournament in Hong Kong (which the Cayman team competed in last April).
