Jason Howard, long recognised as a familiar voice on radio station Z99, is adding weather presenter to his long list of roles at Hurley’s Media Grand Cayman.
The radio operations manager and morning drive personality has been performing double duties for the past year, filling in for the exiting Joe Avary on sister station Cayman 27.
“It was just my dream to be the fill-in weather guy,” said Howard. “Now, I can’t blame a bad forecast on anyone else but myself.”
Howard officially assumed the additional role on Tuesday with Cayman 27’s 6pm nightly news, and plans to add to the weather product that the station and cluster offer as a whole.
“Weather forecasts in the Cayman Islands are too vague,” Howard said. “Granted, we don’t have all the tools they do in the US, but we’re not satisfied any more with phone-it-in forecasts that read 20% chance of showers today, tomorrow and Sunday.”
Howard is not a meteorologist but would like to obtain that distinction in the future. He uses a combination of four different weather services, private and public weather stations, in addition to what is offered by the Cayman Weather Service, to create his daily forecasts.
