A civil lawsuit alleging defamation has been called off, after Cayman Marl Road administrator Sandra Teresa Hill and attorneys for a US businessman reached an agreement on Friday.
The legal action was first filed in 22 July last year by Ogier* attorneys acting on behalf of Blake Ducharme in relation to a post that was published on Hill’s Cayman Marl Road website earlier that month.
Hill, who represented herself throughout the proceedings, had argued that the article was not libellous.
On Friday, 1 May, the parties came to an agreement, which required Hill to make a formal public apology to Ducharme.
Her apology, which featured on the Cayman Marl Road website and its Twitter and Facebook accounts, read: “As you know, CMR has been involved in litigation with Blake Ducharme and his company Black Gold Investments since last summer. We have come to an arrangement with Mr. Ducharme which will bring this to an end and allow both parties to move on.
“The precise terms of the settlement are confidential, but as of today we are removing the disputed content relating to him [Ducharme] and his company from all of our platforms and we wish to formally apologise to him for publishing misleading information and for any inconvenience and damage to reputation that may have been caused.”
Ducharme, through his lawyers, has denied all the allegations levelled against him in the post.
