Public Health on Friday reported the death of another elderly patient with COVID-19, bringing the total number of people in Cayman who have died after contracting the virus to 26.
The department did not specify the vaccination status, age or gender of the patient or whether he or she had other underlying conditions.
On Wednesday, in its weekly trends report, Public Health said the death of an elderly patient last week could be attributed to long COVID-19.
There are an estimated 556 active cases in Cayman, with four patients hospitalised for COVID-related causes. Of these, three are unvaccinated, Public Health said.
In its weekly report, the department noted the trend in hospital admissions was going down, with a total of seven patients being in hospital last week – almost half the number of the previous week’s inpatients.

There is no longer any value in reporting such deaths. Every death is tragic in its own way. If you are going to report on Covid then please report every death from the flu, heart disease, cancer, etc you catch my drift… Covid is with us forever, so drop it or a report everything, why discriminate against other diseases!
