Police are investigating an armed robbery at a George Town business on Thursday morning – the fourth hold-up involving a firearm in the district in two days.
The latest robbery happened shortly before 10:55am Thursday, 31 March, at a business establishment on Owen Roberts Drive.
Police said in a statement that it was reported that two men – one armed with a gun and both wearing masks and construction-type clothing – entered the premises and demanded cash. The RCIPS said it is believed the men left in a vehicle.
This robbery comes two days after a hold-up at a service station on Dorcy Drive in George Town where one of the suspects fired a shot.
Police said, in that incident, which occurred shortly after 10pm, on Tuesday, 29 March, two men arrived at the location on a motorcycle. One entered, carrying a firearm, fired a single shot upward and demanded cash. After taking cash from a customer, the robber fled on the motorcycle with the other man.
Later, police stopped a car with two occupants travelling on School Road, but the driver took off. When the car eventually stopped, the two occupants fled. A police search of vehicle revealed items that the RCIPS said were connected to the robbery.
On the same day, 29 March, police were also called to reports of two other robberies involving firearms. The first occurred shortly after 3:50am on Eastern Avenue, when a man in a vehicle brandished a firearm at a male victim and snatched a gold necklace from him.
Minutes later, shortly after 4am, officers responded to a report of another robbery further south on Eastern Avenue, near Godfrey Nixon Way. In this instance, a man walking on the street was approached by another man who held up a firearm and demanded jewellery from him. A struggle ensued and the suspect subsequently fled in a vehicle, taking an item of jewellery. Police say the victim sustained minor injuries during the altercation.
Anyone with any information on any of these robberies is asked to contact George Town CID at 949-4222. Anonymous tips can be provided directly to the RCIPS confidentially at 949-7777, or via the website.
