It’s hard to imagine the utter devastation Hurricane Ivan left in its wake. Today, 20 years later, there are only a few lingering signs of its impact. Photographer Courtney Platt documented the destruction in the days and weeks following the storm, publishing a series of stunning images in his coffee table book, ‘Paradise Interrupted: Hurricane Ivan’. These images are starkly contrasted by present day photographs taken by Platt in the same location.

Some of Platt’s images were featured in exhibitions by the National Gallery of the Cayman Islands – ‘Emergence’ in 2005 and ‘Ivan Remembered’ in 2014 – marking the aftermath, and the 10th anniversary of the hurricane.
