Up-and-coming US actress Rachel Sennott has told chat show host Jimmy Fallon that she was arrested at the start of a Cayman Islands break when border patrol officers found a cannabis product called ‘Mom Grass’ in her hand luggage.
The 29-year old from Connecticut appeared on ‘The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon’ on 9 Oct. and told the audience, “I was arrested for CBD in the Cayman Islands, which is embarrassing. It’s actually sad. You want to be arrested for something cool. You want to be arrested for like protesting, shoplifting, something awesome. To be arrested for CBD is like, ‘This is a little pathetic.'”

“It was totally my fault too,” she admitted.
According to the actress, who appeared in the HBO series ‘The Idol’, as well as the upcoming film ‘Saturday Night’, she “didn’t look into the international travel laws” before making the trip and was pulled aside for a bag search at the airport on arrival.
An airport employee then found her ‘Mom Grass,’ a cannabis product sold legally in the United States but which is illegal in the Cayman Islands.
Sennott explained, “It’s CBD but it’s made to look like weed.”
The brand described by Sennott, Mom Grass, actually contains CBG or cannabigerol, rather than CBD or cannabidiol.
CBG, like CBD, is derived from cannabis but is non-psychoactive and does not cause a ‘high’ like THC. CBG is often referred to as the ‘mother of all cannabinoids’ and is generally described as being uplifting and energising, in contrast to CBD, which is marketed for its calming and relaxing qualities.
“They arrest me, they take my phone and my passport,” Sennott recalled, noting that the one phone call she was allowed to make had to be to someone within the Cayman Islands. “I, unfortunately, have yet to make friends in the Cayman Islands.”
She was able to send a message to her US lawyers stating, “I’m in jail”. Then, according to her account of what happened, ended up “hanging out with the people who arrested me”.
“Honestly, super chill vibes,” she joked, noting that the border patrol officers then looked her up and started watching clips from her 2023 film ‘Bottoms’.
Sennott’s stint in custody was short-lived as her assistant knew something was wrong when she stopped answering text messages. The assistant called Sennott’s hotel, found out that she’d “probably been detained” and contacted Sennott’s lawyers, who got in touch with the authorities.
According to Sennott, she was let off with “an adult caution” but wasn’t allowed to take away a copy of her mug shot, in spite of her request.
Sennott’s parents were in the audience, and the late-night talk show marked their first time hearing about their daughter’s arrest.
“You’ve got to be very proud,” host Jimmy Fallon joked as the camera panned to Sennott’s parents.
Questions to Customs and Border Control about the incident were not answered at press time.

Stealing from a store is cool? Awesome?
What a bizarre statement.
Re.: “ This is a little pathetic.’”
She’s the pathetic one.
Are actors and actresses born stupid or do they take classes. Shop lifting is a cool thing to get arrested for? If she was trying to be funny, I would think there are many lines that would have been funnier and less suggestive than that one. I sure hope she wasn’t given special treatment by the Cayman border patrol because of who she is as she implied. Many visits to the Caymans and they take things pretty serious when not complying with their rules. Thirty years ago the Caymans didn’t have a drug problem, sad how it changed over the years while chasing the dollar./pound. This was a minor mistake but making jest of it on national TV was not cool or funny.
