Little Cayman Mardi Gras

Little Cayman is gearing up for its fourteenth annual Mardi Gras, slated for Saturday, 25 February.

The carnival event will kick off with a colourful parade from 4pm at Head O’ Bay, snaking its way along Guy Banks Road and finishing off at The Hungry Iguana parking lot.

Five resorts – Parrots Point, Southern Cross Club, Paradise Villas, Little Cayman Beach and Sam McCoys Fishing and Diving – will select one of their guests as judge, a new initiative this year. Winners will be announced once the parade comes to an end.

The theme will be Beloved Isle Little Cayman, selected by this year’s King and Queen, Pete and Karen Linn, chosen by the National Trust for their significant contribution to the Trust over the years.

Categories include prizes for best resort float, resident float, pedestrian and non-motorised vehicle, children under 12 float, best male costume, best female costume, boys and girls costume prizes. There will also be special awards for most colourful, most unique and most comical.

The parade will finish with a Jambalaya dinner – a traditional dish served at Mardi Gras – at Pirates Point Resort, 6.30pm. There will be dancing from 7.30pm to midnight with music provided by local musician Raymond Scott playing a selection of Caribbean flavoured music.

‘This year will be a spectacular event and we hope everyone will come and join us in the fun,’ said Gladys Howard, event organiser.

The Jambalaya dinner costs $12 per person. There is no fee to participate in the parade.
