Tiaras were donned, red, white and blue bunting was
erected and the best frocks were on display as the Cayman Islands celebrated
the Royal Wedding on Friday.
At Camana Bay, a British-style street party was held,
while the Ritz-Carlton, Grand Cayman hosted a posh afternoon tea with plenty of
free-flowing Taittinger champagne.
For those who had not woken up at 4am to watch the
wedding live on TV – briefly interrupted by a CUC power outage as newly wed
royals were about to step out onto the balcony of Buckingham Palace – the
wedding was replayed on screens across the island throughout the day.
At the Ritz-Carlton, a packed 7 Restaurant was the venue
for the tea party, attended by Governor Duncan Taylor, his wife Marie-Beatrice,
and Commissioner of Police David Baines, among many others.
Vicki Wheaton was MC for the event, which included a
competition for the best hat/fascinator and best tiara.
