Cayman Airways resumed flights to Little Cayman Tuesday afternoon after repairs to the lone fire truck on the smaller of two Sister Islands were completed.
While the fire truck was inoperable, no flights could land at the island’s Edward Bodden Airfield.
CAL said in a statement that it had been working with the Cayman Islands Fire Service to help get the fire truck back up and running, by transporting the necessary truck parts from Grand Cayman via scheduled flights to Cayman Brac Tuesday morning.
The parts were then sent to Little Cayman on a boat.
“CAL has since been advised by the Fire Service that the fire truck in Little Cayman has been fixed, so [Tuesday] afternoon’s Express flights will operate as scheduled in and out of Little Cayman,” the airline said.
On Monday, the national flag carrier cancelled its Cayman Airways Express flights KX4624 and 4424 after the Little Cayman fire truck being deemed “inoperable”.
On Tuesday, the CAL said, its Cayman Airways Express morning flights KX4420 and KX4421 also had to be cancelled since the fire truck was still down.

“Affected passengers were safely shuttled from Little Cayman to Cayman Brac by boat, where some were flown to Grand Cayman via an extra Express flight that was added to accommodate the need for additional seats,” it said.

I recall Govt had a recent shipment of new airport fire trucks, was this one, as it looks fairly new. If so, how did it become inoperable at an airport that can hardly be described as busy, and why aren’t spare parts stored locally?.
