Little Cayman resident Brigitte Kassa held a book signing recently for her tales of ‘Brenetta and her Menagerie’.
The story, for children and the young at heart, is based on Brigitte’s real life experiences on the Sister Island.
Many years ago, she and her late husband Basil moved to Little Cayman where they tended their collection of birds and animals.
The menagerie included peacocks, ducks, chickens and wild birds, which all had their own personalities.
Born in Berlin, Brigitte led a glamorous lifestyle in her twenties in Monte Carlo where she was owner and hostess of a nightclub patronised by the likes of Frank Sinatra and Grace Kelly.
But tiring of the glitz, she moved with her husband to Little Cayman in the early Seventies to lead a peaceful life.
This charming storybook is a collection of her memories with the animals, and is illustrated by Brigitte’s friend Mary McTaggart Christoffers who lives on Grand Cayman.
The recent book signing was held at the home of Gladys Howard, who runs Pirates’ Point Resort on Little Cayman.
‘Brenetta and her Menagerie’ is available at bookstores throughout the islands.
