Off-duty cop helps nab burglary suspect

A 46-year-old woman is in police custody after she was arrested on suspicion of attempted burglary.

The arrest followed an incident Sunday where the 911 Emergency Communications Centre received a call from Royal Cayman Islands Police Inspector Frank Owens.

Mr. Owens was off-duty at around 12.25pm when he told emergency operators he was in pursuit of a burglary suspect in the Old Crewe Road area.

Officers from George Town police station responded to the location and the woman was arrested in the Sunrise Apartments area.

Investigations carried out at the scene revealed that the woman had allegedly attempted to break into a home on Old Crew Road but was disturbed by a resident during the attempt.

Police said she ran from the house and was chased by the off-duty officer, who happened to be in the area at the time.
