Search on for missing fisherman

Police continued searches for a missing fisherman Friday after he left home more than 24 hours earlier.

Sisby Levert Barnett aka ‘Junior’, of Duxies Lane, West Bay, left his home address at around 7am Thursday to go fishing. He was expected to return home that evening but did not.

Royal Cayman Islands Police said Mr. Barnett was using a 12 to 14 foot green open aluminium boat.

Emergency services were notified of his apparent disappearance at around 8.45pm Thursday by Mr Barnett’s brother.

The Marine Unit commenced a search on the water and land searches were conducted around the shoreline of West Bay. Thursday night, his trailer was found at the North West Point Road launch ramp.

Friday morning, officers found a boat overturned a short distance from the shore in the Barkers area which is believed to be Mr Barnett’s.

A fuel tank and cooler from that boat also washed up on the shoreline.

Although it is not known exactly where Mr Barnett had planned to go fishing, police said he frequents the Barkers and Seven Mile Beach areas. All private and commercial vessels on the water are asked to assist in the search by looking out for Mr Barnett.

The Marine Unit resumed their searches Friday and anyone with information is asked to contact police. Vessels on the water should contact the Port Authority on VHF channel 16 or Inspector Brad Ebanks on 526-0631 or Chief Inspector Myles on 526-0649.

Officers would also like to hear from anyone who saw Mr Barnett after 7am Thursday, either or land or on the water.
