Kids with Heart brighten Pines

Children from Montessori by the Sea, First Baptist Christian School, Hope Academy and Cayman International School volunteered their time recently for Kids with Heart,” an event at The Pines retirement home.

The children decorated Christmas trees for several of the patients’ rooms at The Pines, spreading some holiday to cheer for all.

“We found battery-operated trees at Celebrations so that a few can even be used in the residents’ rooms,” said Kids with Heart organiser Pamela Webster.

She added that Celebrations has been a kind partner for offering discounts on the craft items and is always helpful in offering ideas and making these events a success.

The pre-lit trees were donated by John May, owner and broker at Capital Realty. Ms Webster works for Capital Realty and is also a Pink Ladies volunteer.

She developed the Kids with Heart event to help out at The Pines every six-to-eight weeks, all with the notion of developing an interaction between the children and residents.

“These Christmas trees will hopefully brighten up The Pines for the season,” she said.

Some of the past projects with the children have been floral arrangements for the day room, planting herbs for decoration and cooking, sewing projects, and decorating picture frames for the resident’s rooms.

Ms Webster said they are “desperately looking for volunteers,” and Kids with Heart could use small company sponsorships to help out with the costs of crafts.

She is covering the current cost of $100 to $200 for supplies per event.
