It’s a long weekend and we gonna party

We hardly need an excuse to get the buzz on here in Weekenderland and this weekend’s got plenty of opportunities to get involved.

On Friday, 18 May, for example, there’s a grand opening of Nectar Bar and Lounge, from 9pm to 2am. The popular spot on Seven Mile Beach is actually open from 4.30pm onward as it celebrates its revamp under new management.

DJ Flex is the spinner in charge and he promises to take us around the world from past to present. Expect the best in pop, Latin house, bachata, salsa, merengue and reggaeton.

“Come and dance the night away like never before, or relax in our A/C environment and our spacious seating,” says the DJ.

Best of all, if you’re celebrating a birthday, e-mail him at [email protected] and he’ll hook you up with a special bottle service.

More on the strip

On Saturday, 19 May, Risque Promotions are the folks behind Overdose at Jet Nightclub, also on the Seven Mile Strip. Of course, it’s one of those famous Mile High Saturdays, which provide dancehall, hiphop and Top-40 tunes. In charge of the discs and trix it’s DJ Von. Ladies are free until 9.30pm, with the night running up until just before midnight as usual. We’re not sure on the cover charge here so ask ’em nicely when you see them, still.

And cause it’s the long weekend there’s a special event starting at midnight on Sunday, 20 May into Monday, 21 May. Yep, it’s the Flor de Cana Rum Jungle at Obar.

The venue will be transformed into suitably jungly climes for this special shindig – come in your leopard prints and loincloths – women get in free with a themed costume and there are prizes for the best dressed. You might wanna warm up in the Attic next door where you can win VIP treatment and bottle service if you’re lucky.

If not, just be sure you’re careful around the pool table – those balls can get everywhere. Rum Jungle’s $10 to get in.

After all that lot, we’re going to need some days off to recover – wonder if there’s such a thing as a Bank Holiday Tuesday?
