Two hurt in Red Bay crash

Two people were hospitalized following a car accident in Red Bay Wednesday afternoon.

About 1.35 pm Wednesday, a white Honda Integra turned left from Selkirk Drive into Red Bay Road and collided with a Toyota Land Cruiser. Police said the Land Cruiser flipped and then landed back on its wheels again. Both vehicles sustained major damage, police said.

The man driving the Honda lost consciousness after the crash and was taken to the Cayman Islands Hospital in George Town for treatment, police said. The woman who was driving the Land Cruiser has also been taken to hospital. Her injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

Police and fire crews are on scene. There is an oil spill at the location and although single traffic lanes remain open in both directions, drivers are being urged to drive slowly and use caution.

Anyone who witnessed the crash should call Inspector Adrian Barnett at the RCIPS Traffic Management Dept. on 946-6254.

  1. One of the dumbest sections of road in Cayman, combined with a high idiot rate. As someone who has used this stretch of road on a bicycle and a motorcycle, it is amazing there aren’t more incidents here.

Couple of weeks ago saw someone come out of the fuel station and go the wrong way to go down Selkirk – this was bad enough, but there was also a car correctly using the one-way section.

This is at least the second accident today, as some fool managed to wipe out a street light from near to the Cayman National roundabout – how this is possible, I do not know, maybe the post moved suddenly?!?!
