The search for a man who leaped into rough seas Tuesday night to avoid police continued throughout Thursday.
The police helicopter carried out marine and land searches for Anthony Smith all day Wednesday and again on Thursday in an attempt to find him.
“The police have been in contact with various family members and friends and are continuing that liaison in the quest to locate Mr. Smith,” a police spokesman said Thursday.
Mr. Smith, 33, who is wanted by police in connection with drug offenses and failing to appear in court, dived into the sea in West Bay around 10 p.m. Tuesday after patrol police approached him as he sat in a stationary car near the waterfront Alfresco Restaurant.
The police helicopter and marine units began searching for him Tuesday night, but the search was called off due to severe weather.
So far, the only sign of Mr. Smith has been his shoes and a cell phone that police officers recovered while searching the shoreline for him.
