Sharks feed on Devil Rays, still circling for more prey

Veteran leadership continues to serve the Sharks well.

Heading into this week, the squad sits 3-1 with 12 points atop the Caribbean Creations Ball Hockey League. Their most recent triumph was a 7-3 beating of the Deloitte Devil Rays at Kings Sports Center.

Last Thursday’s contest saw goals from the Sharks’ Perry Lawlor, Paul Peene, Claude Plamondon and Brendan Rainonen. Deloitte countered with scores from Leo Kassam, Ben Taylor and Dylan Wiltermuth. The loss keeps the Devil Rays winless on the year at 0-4.

The Sharks sport much of the same talent that advanced to last season’s finals. In particular, the defense remains sharp behind Tim Courtis, Robert Mahadeo, Tim Woolaver and goalie Shawn Lunt. Deloitte, the defending champions, look like a different team without top player Rob Rintoul.

Both the Sharks and Devil Rays will be in action again on Thursday, Oct. 31. At 8:30 p.m. Sharks challenge the 2-1-1 Barracudas with Deloitte facing the 2-1-1 Pirates at 9:30 p.m. Their opponents are coming off a 3-3 draw last week. Evan Ellbogen, David Fiebig and Don Gardiner scored for the Barracudas while Paul Strenk and Jesse Walker nabbed points for the Pirates.

The Pirates are officially in second with a better goal differential of +7 (the Barracudas are at 0).
