Manslaughter charge brought in cyclist’s death

Update, 8.17pm: Nicholas Patrick Tibbetts, 24, appeared in Summary Court
late Friday afternoon charged with three offenses arising from the death of
cyclist Donnie Ray Connor along the Linford Pierson Highway in the early hours
of Thursday, April 23. 

Tibbetts, an immigration
officer, is charged with manslaughter, causing death by careless driving and
leaving the scene of an accident. 

The first two charges are triable in Grand Court only and
Magistrate Valdis Foldats transmitted them to the higher court, bailing
Tibbetts to appear there on Friday, May 8.

Police on Friday charged a 24-year-old man with manslaughter in relation to the death of Donnie Ray Connor.

Mr. Connor was killed while riding his bicycle along the Linford Pearson Highway in the early hours of Thursday morning, April 23.

The arrested man was also charged with causing death by careless driving and leaving the scene of an accident. Police said he was due to appear in court on Friday afternoon.

Police also arrested a 19-year-old man and a 32-year-old woman on Wednesday and Thursday this week on suspicion of being accessories after the fact and attempting to obstruct, prevent, pervert or defeat the course of justice.

Both have been released on police bail while inquiries continue.
