While the NRA’s remit is largely road building, the agency had put forward a number of other ideas, based on its research that could be considered to impact traffic.

Restrict import market: Jamaica has banned older vehicles and Cayman could consider following suit.

Work from home: It worked during COVID and could be expanded again now to cut journeys.

End the 9-5 day: Creating shifts for schools and workplaces outside of the traditional 9-5 day could help spread traffic out more evenly.

Go east: Developing offices and jobs in the eastern districts could allow more people to work closer to where they live.

Congestion charging: A controversial policy that has been used in other areas, including London, to make car travel less attractive at certain times.

Alternative transport: Bikes and electric vehicles could be introduced with more lane capacity, the NRA argues.

An efficient bus service: A dedicated bus lane that bypasses traffic and even roundabouts, using dedicated lanes, could make public transport a more attractive option.

  1. Kids required to take a school bus in the morning. Those parents who wish to drive their one child to school should have to pay a congestion fee which funds should go to fund road building.

  2. An efficient, on time bus service with larger buses that are more comfortable is a good idea. But bus lanes that block off part of the existing roads for bus use only is a dreadful idea that will cause massive traffic jams.

Need work on the big bottle-necks. Flyovers (overpasses) at Hurleys and A L Thompson roundabouts. That will speed up the traffic substantially.

Those silly red poles on the Hurleys roundabout are worthless. That’s why no other major roundabout system in the UK uses them.
