A suspect who is wanted in connection with multiple murders, and was deported from Cayman to Jamaica, is on the run again, after having escaped from police custody.
“Our investigations are still ongoing, but our initial findings are that Mr Rudolph Shaw escaped by cutting his way through a vent,” said Senior Superintendent Stephanie Lindsay, a communications officer for the Jamaica Constabulary Force.
Shaw, who also goes by the name ‘Boxer’ or ‘Boxa’, was returned to Jamaica by Cayman’s Customs and Border Control officers in July, after he was captured during a police chase earlier that month.
Lindsay told the Cayman Compass Shaw was remanded into custody, having made two initial court appearances in Jamaica.
“He was a high-risk prisoner, who was being housed in a high-security lockup, so this is very unfortunate that he has managed to escape,” Lindsay said.
“We are currently reviewing the events leading up to and after his escape,” she said.
Shaw had been described by Jamaican authorities a “vicious criminal“.
Lindsay advised that he should be avoided by the general public.
“He is known to be armed and dangerous, so we are encouraging persons who come into contact with him to call 119, or make a tip through our confidential tip line by calling 311,” said Lindsay.
She further told the Compass that Jamaican authorities are not sure if Shaw is still in the country, or if he has managed to escape the island.
“At this stage, it is not clear where he is, and so we are in the process of alerting all our Caribbean counterparts to be on the lookout for him,” she said.
