A nursery for Caymanian children is set to open at East End Primary School this September and registration takes place from 1 to 31 July.
It will serve 20 children who live in the East End and North Side catchment areas who have turned three years old before 1 September.
The Ministry of Education and Department of Education Services announced the opening of the nursery in a press release today, 27 June.
Minister of Education Juliana O’Connor-Connolly said the ministry has provided tuition support for parents through the Early Childhood Assistance Programme.
However, some working Caymanians still face challenges finding spaces and accessing quality early childhood care.
“With the introduction of the new early childhood facility, we aim to alleviate the burden for more parents,” the minister said.
“And enable them to be more productive during the day, with the peace-of-mind that their children are in a safe and nurturing early learning environment.”
The nursery will operate from Monday to Friday, 8:30am to 2:30pm. It will offer daily morning care from 5:30am, aftercare from 2:30pm to 6:30pm, and free school meals.
Elroy Bryan, deputy director at the Department of Education Services, said: “There are limited spaces available, so I implore persons to register soon.”
Parents seeking to register their children must submit an official letter from Workforce Opportunities and Residency Cayman acknowledging the child’s ‘Right to be Caymanian’.
They must also provide a copy of the child’s immunisation records and the completed application form.
Parents can register online at https://schools.edu.ky/registration-forms/ or learn more about the nursery at the Department of Education Services website.
