Shenel interests FC Indiana

Highly-rated Cayman Islands striker Shenel Gall is being tracked by top American women’s side FC Indiana.

The 20-year-old striker will be evaluated by FC Indiana from the Women’s Premier League team and will be invited to the club’s pre-season camp next March in Cayman Islands.

Indianapolis-based FC Indiana scout Christian Castro, who worked on FC Indiana’s signing of Mexico midfielders Paty Perez and Fatima Leyva five years ago, will assess Gall.

“Coach Shek Borkowski has been sounded out, but there is nothing official,” said Castro. “I have been asked by Shek to follow Shenel and produce a scouting report on her.”

Borkowski came to Grand Cayman last month to sign a deal with football association president Jeffrey Webb to monitor local women’s football talent with a view to signing the best players if they are good enough to turn pro. FC Indiana also want to invite them there for clinics and to bring players and coaches here to help raise standards.

Gall, a member of Cayman women’s national team, is currently playing with a university team in the US, Barton College in Georgia. FC Indiana is one of the top clubs in the US. They have won four national championships in five years, the Women’s Premier Soccer League (2005 and ‘07) and Women’s Open Cup (2005 and ‘08). The club’s diversity is world renowned. In the past six years 39 players from 16 countries have competed for FC Indiana.

Thiago Cunha is technical director of Cayman’s women’s programme. He said: “Shenel is really doing well. She has been selected for the second team of the All-Star team. She will be coming home soon and training with the national team. We will see a lot of girls coming home from school in the next few weeks to train with us.

“Emily Kelly is already here. She is really doing well at her US school and fulfilling all her potential.”
