Culture at the Cinema: ‘Peter Pan’

With Christmas nearly upon us, it seems only fitting to have a Culture at the Cinema which is all about flights of fancy and wonder. The much-beloved J.M. Barrie tale “Peter Pan” is brought to life on the British stage, and through the magic of technology, can be viewed as a recording of the live production at Regal Camana Bay on Nov. 18.

November film releases at Regal Camana Bay

I’ll be honest, I can barely contain my excitement about “Thor: Ragnarok” hitting the screens this Friday. The Incredible Hulk was my favorite character when I was a kid reading comics, and if the previews are anything to go by, this will be a really fun night at the movies.

Culture at the Cinema: ‘Obsession’

Fans of Jude Law should be delighted to see him flex his acting muscles, both literally and figuratively, in the filmed live stage production of “Obsession,” showing at Regal Camana Bay on Oct. 21.

October movies at Regal Camana Bay

Tom Cruise is back on the big screen, perhaps trying to redeem himself after the uninspiring “Mummy” release earlier this year. So far, critic buzz is pretty positive about his performance in “American Made”; let’s see if the box office follows suit.

Movies this month at Regal Camana Bay

If I were asked what film I’m most excited/terrified about this month, it would be “IT,” the remake of the Stephen King bestseller that was originally a two-part miniseries starring Tim Curry as Pennywise. The 1990 version really gave clowns a bad name, and it still stands up over time, apart from an ending that seemed to reveal its budget limitations.

Culture at the Cinema: ‘Saint Joan’

It seems that Regal Camana Bay, in partnership with Culture at the Cinema, is continuing its religious theme into August. In July, the National Theatre Live’s production of “Salomé” was screened here, and on Aug. 19, “Saint Joan” starring Gemma Arterton in the lead role, is presented for one night only.

August movies at Regal Camana Bay

It seems that “The Emoji Movie” has taken quite the hit from critics, but in this age of texting and social media it will probably still do well at the box office because you can’t keep a good emoji down.

After a relatively uninspired January and February, we are suddenly seeing some blockbuster films coming to Regal Camana Bay in March. “Logan,” starring Hugh Jackman, could be the last Wolverine installment, but will it be? Then “Kong: Skull Island” brings the big guy to life in 3-D with lots of other giant beasties thrown into the mix.

There have been some surprises at the box office in recent months. Probably one of the biggest is the smash hit “Deadpool,” which has basically rewritten the book when it comes to R-rated “superhero” flicks.
