A man who police said attacked a security guard with a bottle at a West Bay bar premises Saturday was arrested after fleeing the scene. The Royal Cayman Islands Police Service said the assault was reported around 10 p.m. at a bar on Birch Tree Hill Road.

A teenager convicted of two armed robberies at the same store was sentenced last week to eight years imprisonment. Justice Charles Quin said he could not ignore the violent nature of the robberies and the traumatic effect the robberies had on the victims.

A law enforcement raid in West Bay Sunday recovered 65 pounds of ganja in an area off Mount Pleasant Road. There were no arrests made in connection with the operation.

A female sea turtle was rescued from poachers Wednesday night after a conservation officer discovered her tied up in the sand in West Bay. Officer Chadd Bush reported coming across the scene, where three men had the turtle tied, flipped on her back and ready to load into a gold pickup truck.

A woman jogging along a trail in West Bay’s Barkers area was jumped by an attacker just after dawn Friday, the latest in a string of attacks on women that have plagued the district since last year. The students at West Bay’s Sir John A. Cumber Primary School now have a few more reading resources thanks to some recent donations of reading and school supplies. A donation of books and school supplies by a family visiting from overseas was presented to the school on Monday, March 20. Donors Joshua and Katie Brown were visiting the island from St. Louis, Missouri, with their 6-year-old daughter and 11-year-old son, Sir John A. Cumber teacher and library resources coordinator Annette Vaughan told the Cayman Compass.

Two more arrests made in Fete shooting case
Police made two more arrests Friday in connection with a Feb. 4 shooting outside Fete Nightclub that resulted in two injuries. A 19-year-old man and a 24-year-old woman, both from West Bay, were detained on suspicion of possession of an unlicensed firearm and attempted murder.
Free self-defense class in West Bay
Following a series of indecent assaults in West Bay, a martial arts school is holding a free self-defense class in the district this weekend.
